World Coffee Day
Today we celebrate World Coffee Day, and we cannot overlook the love Slovenians have for this aromatic beverage! 🇸🇮
Did you know that Slovenia is among the countries with the highest coffee consumption per capita? On average, Slovenians drink about 6 kg of coffee per year! 🏆 The most popular choice remains the classic black coffee, but many also enjoy the rich flavors of cappuccinos and lattes.
A Historical View on Coffee in Slovenia
Coffee drinking in Slovenia dates back to the 18th century, when the influence of the Habsburg Monarchy was crucial in spreading the culture of coffee consumption. The first café opened in Ljubljana in 1782, where society would gather over a cup of coffee to discuss art, politics, and literature. The café has always been a place for exchanging ideas, and this tradition continues to this day. ☕️💬
Gastronomic Specialties
Coffee is not just a beverage! Slovenian cuisine includes some unique specialties that incorporate coffee. One of the most famous desserts is the Pohorska Omleta, which features coffee liqueur, and coffee štruklji, where aromatic coffee blends with delicate dough. Coffee is also used in creams, desserts, and even marinades, adding a deeper flavor to dishes.
On this World Coffee Day, let’s not forget to support our local roasters and cafés, who ensure that our cups are always filled with excellent flavors. 🏡❤️ May your day be filled with pleasant moments over a cup of coffee! ☕️
